What is Headout?
Headout is an on-demand mobile marketplace that helps travellers discover & book tours, activities, events & local experiences in town for the next 24 hours. Let's say you forgot to book tickets to an event or tour or want to book tickets from your hotel room because let's face it, we all hate standing in long queues. Or maybe you just want to look for attractions in your destination. With Headout you can search for attractions and activities in your destination and book your next experience in just 3 taps. No queues, No waiting, No hassle.
Understanding the problem
- Currently, the platform is direct transactional – you visit the site to book an experience. Here is the problem - Because of COVID and the travel restrictions and keeping ourselves safe, there aren't a lot of people travelling. And because of this, there is no reason to use the Headout app because people aren't travelling immediately.
- To keep the users in the app, the Problem Statement given by Headout was to engage users through a content-first model with embedded e-commerce. This way the primary user actions switch to discovery, inspiration, browsing/saving content etc. This way the users can get all the information they need about the destination before travelling and also continue to book experiences the same as before.
Researching Headout
- Before getting into anything else, the first thing I had to do was to explore the current Headout app and get familiar with the elements in the app and the user flow between the screens - from searching for an experience to booking an experience. I wanted to keep the feel and look of my app familiar to the existing Headout app, to a certain extent at least.
- Additionally, I checked out the Headout Blog to see what kind of content they have. Apart from curated content, they post articles sent to them by other travellers after a thorough review. And with this, they already have a content direction they can take.

Initial Research
I hopped on Google to do a small search to get a little more understanding about how people plan their trips and what are the things they make sure they know about the destination before travelling and the kind of content they consume to get the information.
- Bloggers are a trusted source.
- Currency, Safety and Transportation is important.
